Your Prescription is Ready

Jummah Mubarak sis! You know when a doctor places a prescription order, you’re often quick to respond—acting on it promptly, following through with the steps, and then waiting patiently for the outcome? That sense of trust and obedience in the system mirrors something even deeper in our spiritual journey.

Allah swt, our Divine Creator, has given each of us a divine prescription—five essential acts that form the foundation of our faith:

  1. Declaring the Shahada (faith),

  2. Establishing regular Salah (prayer),

  3. Observing Sawm (fasting during Ramadan),

  4. Giving Zakat (charity), and

  5. Performing Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah, if able).

These aren’t just rituals, they are divine prescriptions for success in both this life and the Hereafter. Just like medical orders are tailored to heal the body, these are designed to heal, guide, and elevate the soul.

What’s beautiful is that while the prescription is the same for all believers, each of us lives a different life, walks a unique path, and faces distinct tests. For some, prayer comes easily, while fasting might be a struggle. For others, giving in charity is effortless, but maintaining focus in salah is a challenge.

So what do we do when certain parts of our spiritual prescription feel easier than others? We don’t take them for granted—we leverage them. We use those strengths as spiritual momentum to help us conquer the areas where we face more difficulty.

Allah sees not just what we do, but the effort, intention, and struggle behind it. Keep striving, and remember, even the smallest sincere action done consistently is beloved to Him.

Surah Al-Baqarah (2:286):
“Allah does not burden a soul beyond what it can bear…”

This ayah is a powerful reminder that Allah knows each of our capacities. The "prescription" may be the same for all believers, but how we carry it out is deeply personal. Allah, in His infinite wisdom and mercy, tailors our tests and strengths in a way that suits our unique paths.

The aspects of worship that come easier for us are gifts we can use to help us through the parts that challenge us more. Each person has its own balance—what’s easy for one may be hard for another, but it’s all within the limits of what we can handle.
