Don’t Drop the Baton Sis
Jummah Mubarak, sis! Not every gift we’re blessed with is meant to stay hidden. Some were written for us to carry forward and share. Society loves to tell us to stay low, build in silence, and “gatekeep”, but sis… what if your gift was given to you to brighten the lives of those around you?
Imagine if the greatest minds chose silence and never shared their knowledge. Imagine a world where no one offered tools for success; where fear or self-doubt kept everything locked away. We wouldn’t grow, not individually and definitely not collectively. Just like an ecosystem thrives through mutualistic relationships, we, too, flourish when we pour into one another. It’s all connected; the energy flows through the whole web.
And just as passing the baton matters, holding onto it matters too. A relay race is a team effort, with each runner responsible for passing the baton within a marked zone. Everyone works together so the anchor—the fastest runner—can finish strong. But sis, if you drop the baton, the whole team feels it.
Our experiences, knowledge, and gifts serve many purposes, and we only rise as a community when we think collectively. So share your gifts; but also, don’t drop the gems being handed to you.
“He gives wisdom to whom He wills, and whoever has been given wisdom has certainly been given much good. And none will remember except those of understanding.”
— Surah Al-Baqarah (2:269)
This ayah reminds us that wisdom, whether it shows up as knowledge, insight, skill, intuition, or a special gift, isn’t given by chance. Allah places these abilities within us on purpose. And when He gives someone wisdom, He’s blessing them with something truly good.
Wisdom isn’t meant to sit untouched or be hidden because of fear, doubt, or what society says. It’s meant to be used, shared, and poured into others. It has a purpose beyond just ourselves.
Reflecting on the message above, highlights that our gifts often carry light for the people around us. This ayah supports that idea by showing that when Allah grants you wisdom, He’s also giving you an opportunity to uplift others and make a positive impact.
The end of the ayah, “And none will remember except those of understanding,” reminds us that a heart that’s open and humble is the one that benefits from wisdom. That means being willing to share what you know, but also being willing to receive and appreciate what others give you.
So in simple terms, Allah gives us gifts for a reason. We grow stronger when we share them, and we grow wiser when we accept the gems passed to us. Wisdom is a blessing that becomes even more beautiful when it flows through a community.
