Every Coil is Devine Design

Jummah Mubarak, sis! You don’t need to stress about navigating your hair journey—especially when it comes to managing your hair under the hijab. Let’s be honest: it’s 2025, and Alhamdulillah, we have so many resources available to us now. But even with all these tools, the conversation around Black hair care under hijab still needs more space, more voices, and more understanding.

The Black hair experience is truly unique. Our hair carries history, versatility, creativity, and emotion. It’s flexible enough to take on so many forms, yet it holds deep cultural and personal meaning. There’s beauty in the process of learning about our hair—understanding its needs, its texture, and its spirit.

When you add the hijab into that journey—whether you wear it full-time, part-time, or are still exploring your path—it introduces a new layer of care and balance. It’s not always easy, but it’s definitely possible. The goal isn’t perfection—it’s preservation, patience, and pride.

Remember, covering our hair isn’t a burden—it’s a blessing. The hijab offers protection in more ways than one: protection from environmental harm, from vanity, from societal pressures, etc. It reminds us of our worth beyond appearance and of the sacred connection between faith and identity.

So embrace your uniqueness, sis. Your hair, your hijab, your journey—all of it tells a story that is beautifully yours. Every curl, every coil, every wrap and pin—it’s all part of your divine design.

“And We have certainly honored the children of Adam and carried them on the land and sea and provided for them of the good things and preferred them over much of what We have created, with [definite] preference.”
— Surah Al-Isra (17:70)

This ayah is a divine reminder that our worth was written long before the world ever defined beauty. Allah Himself declares that He has honored every child of Adam — not by status, wealth, complexion, or appearance, but simply through our creation.

For us, as Muslim women, this honor is reflected in every part of who we are — in our hearts, in our iman, in the way we walk through the world with modesty and grace. Whether our hair is covered or uncovered in private, whether our texture coils, curls, or flows — it is all part of that divine artistry.

When we wear the hijab, it’s not about hiding our beauty — it’s about honoring it. The hijab reminds us that our beauty is sacred, not for the validation of others, but for the pleasure of the One who created us. It’s a covering that protects, empowers, and connects us back to Allah’s mercy.

Our hair is part of that story too. It carries history, identity, and care — especially for Black Muslim women whose experiences with hair are so layered and rich. Embracing our natural textures while observing our faith is a form of worship in itself, a way of saying:

“Ya Allah, I accept what You have given me, and I honor it through how I care for it.”

So when you look in the mirror, with or without your hijab, remember this ayah — you are already honored. You are seen by your Creator. You are a reflection of divine craftsmanship.

Walk in that truth, sis. With confidence. With peace. With gratitude.
