Dismount Your Camel

Jummah Mubarak, sis! You’ve made it to Friday—so take a moment to smile. Whatever the past week brought, release it with grace and open your heart to the blessings of this special day. Jummah is beautifully placed in the week, giving us the pause we need after a long stretch of work—to worship, pray, and recharge our spirits. It prepares us for the rest of the day, the weekend ahead, and carries us until the next Jummah.

The very first Jummah took place after Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) journeyed to Medina. He dismounted his camel at the request of the people of Banu Salim and offered prayer there. Let this be your reminder to “dismount your camel” and step down from the busyness of your journey, slow your pace, and take time for your Creator.

“O you who believe! When the call is proclaimed for the prayer on Friday (Jumu’ah), hasten to the remembrance of Allah and leave off trade. That is better for you, if you only knew.” (Al- Jumu’a 62:9)

Jummah is not just about gathering in the masjid, but about pausing our worldly pursuits, dismounting from our “camels” of busyness, and turning our full attention to Allah. It’s a sacred pause, a reset button for the soul, a chance to find peace and strength to carry us into the weekend and the days beyond.

Even the very first Jummah holds a powerful lesson: when Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) arrived in Medina, he stopped at the request of the people of Banu Salim, dismounted his camel, and led the prayer. That dismounting was symbolic—leaving the journey behind to focus on the greater journey toward Allah.

So today, take this as your reminder: dismount your camel. Step away from the rush, release the burdens of your week, and stand before your Lord with an open heart. Because the blessings of Jummah are waiting for you—mercy, forgiveness, tranquility, and strength to move forward.
