The Window of Time

Jummah Mubarak, sis! The sun carries energy that brings life and growth. It warms the earth and makes cultivation possible. As the seasons change, the amount of sunlight shifts, and with it, the window of time we have to plant, tend, and harvest. These changes teach us that growth happens within limits and seasons, and that timing matters.

In the same way, the seeds we plant in our lives are shaped by how much care, attention, and time we give them. This is a reminder to be mindful of how we spend our time. If our days are measured and finite, how are we using each portion to nurture what Allah has placed in our hands?

Practically, this might look like intentionally adjusting work schedules to make time for walks, choosing specific moments to take the children to the park, or setting aside time to plan your week, month, or even quarter so responsibilities are spread out with balance and clarity. When we align our time with purpose, we create the conditions for steady growth, allowing what we’ve planted to flourish in its proper season.

“And He is the One who made the sun a shining light and the moon a measured glow, and determined for it phases so that you may know the number of years and the calculation of time. Allah did not create this except in truth.”
-Surah Yunus 10:5

This ayah beautifully illustrates Allah’s wisdom in creating the sun and the moon with measured precision. The sun provides light and energy, allowing life to grow, while the moon marks the passing of time through its phases. Allah designed these celestial bodies not just for natural cycles, but as signs for us—to measure our days, our months, and the passage of years. Time itself is a gift, carefully structured so that we can plan, act, and grow.

The same way the sun nourishes seeds and the seasons determine their growth, the way we use our time directly impacts the fruits of our efforts. Every moment carries potential: moments spent on meaningful acts, personal growth, or caring for family and community. But just as a seed cannot grow without sunlight and water, our actions need intentionality and structure to flourish.

This ayah reminds us to be mindful of the time Allah has given us. Planning our days, weeks, or months is not just practical—it is part of honoring the gift of time. When we schedule our work, rest, exercise, and family moments thoughtfully, we create the right conditions for growth, balance, and productivity. And just as the sun and moon operate in perfect order, we too are called to use our time wisely, trusting Allah to bring the results of our efforts in the proper season.

In essence, the ayah teaches patience, purpose, and trust: sow your seeds, tend them with care, respect the natural rhythm of time, and rely on Allah to bring forth the fruit at the right moment.
